From Puerto Vallarta, follow the highway 200 (known as the Carretera Federal Tepic-Puerto Vallarta) north to Bucerias. As you pass the last light in Bucerias, you will go up a hill for another 1/4 mile and notice the large billboard for Punta Esmeralda on your left. You will also see the terracotta wall for Punta Esmeralda on the left. Merge into the left hand lane and get ready to turn left (before the exit to Punta de Mita/La Cruz). A lot has been said and shown in various media.

In a closer look, tourist areas are guarded by federal armed forces on top of local security. Besides, most hotels have their own security staff too.

Approximately, 1 million US citizens live in Mexico

Media trend is to magnify negative things because tragedy sells. On the other hand people is still coming to Mexico via cruises, hotel reservations, charters and you could ask yourself why, well the reason is simple: They feel safe

Yes, it is true there are drug cartels trying to take control of the border because they are making sure to control their target market.

Not trying to blame anyone in particular but drug consumers all over are feeding these type of people, let’s do our part on this and be active on avoiding ourselves as well as other people in getting into this human-destructive life style.

Let’s be conscious of the fact that other people’s lives are being destroyed or severely damaged because of something we can stop doing.

So, for now don’t worry, tourism areas are doing well (with the exception of very rare incidents), we hope the border cities of Mexico do the same in the near future.
